I’m glad I don’t have a choice to vote on my choice of mother. Perhaps when I was a few years younger, if I did have that chance, I might’ve recklessly voted out my Mum.

Like the general election, Mum’s see the bigger picture. They know what needs to be done and make the decisions to see it through. Young voters see only negativity and a chance to change. The analogy loses it’s effect here because while governments fail to be caring and only see numbers at times, Mother’s don’t. They give and give for their kids and direct them on the right path. Their intentions are never distorted and always predictable, wanting the best for their kids.

Thank you, Mum.

P.S. Happy Mother’s Day to all the other Mums too!

After reading a lot of the general election posts about poverty and income inequality, I’m just very glad that my parents have placed a roof over my head, food and are supporting me through education.

Thanks Mum, thanks Dad!

Josh

Repeated Prisoner’s Dilemma

Bobby and Joshua are two students fighting for a law library seat. They decide to collude so that both get more sleep and still have an equal chance of getting a seat in the law library.

Because there is no legal document binding Josh and Bobby, they have an incentive to cheat and go back on their word. By sacrificing a little more sleep, either has a higher chance of getting a seat in the law library. This then becomes a Prisoner’s dilemma in which the dominant strategy of both parties becomes to sacrifice sleep and turn up earlier.

The result? Both parties end up with less sleep and as dissatisfied as before.

Because this occurs daily, we call this a repeated Prisoner’s dilemma. In this game, tit-for-tat strategy applies. Assuming Josh cheats first and enjoys a law library seat cushioning his behind for 7-8 hours, at Bobby’s next opportunity he will also cheat and reap the benefits. However, if Josh and Bobby both play dominated strategies, both will reap the benefits of having more sleep and equal chance of a law library seat.

Solution? Stop turning up early for uni all you other people (so I can cheat and grab seats)

Parking at UNSW Lower Campus

Note to self.

7am - Park anywhere. That freaking early will get you an all day spot on Day Ave easy, you insomniac.

8am - Still early. Day Ave & Houston Road, all day spots. You nerd.

9am - Straight to Doncaster Ave or Forsyth St. Forget about Houston unless you’re feeling lucky. It’s not worth the time.

10am - Pushing it here are we? Mooraime Ave or Doncaster again. If Mooraime’s full then good luck! Try Anzac Parade.

11am till 3pm - Park on Anzac Parade and move your car at 3pm. Either that or good luck.

2P spots worth mentioning:

Strachan Street, Anzac Parade past petrol station (3pm rule applies), Meeks Street.

Beyond 3pm, parking should be easily found on Forsyth, Day Ave, Houston, Harbourne St, Barker St (if you’re lucky) and Doncaster (but it’s not worth the walk)

Lynette says I should be asleep. But it isn’t as easy to sleep as the words often roll off your tongue. It’s nights like these I think of a few things, friends, family, girlfriend, music.

Tonight though, its about NS. There are so many people I didn’t get to thank properly for really making my time in Singapore spectacular.

Izhar, my best buddy in station. We never fought fire together (cause we weren’t fostered in the same shift) but you and me were brothers man. I miss your words of wisdom and the teh and kopi-pengs.

My awesome junior SCs that were each unique, Shaiful, fearless. Zufar, bottomless stomach and Muza the unseen or unheard. You guys helped take arrows away from me during my NS time. Thanks!

My china gang, sorely missed. Especially Wang who just got hitched. No 4 more vinegar, no chili and a linglong to go.

Keiran and Fazil. You two are like peas in a pod. You are nothing alike but you guys get along so well. Best medics to be with in FP. Conversations too.

And ALL my seniors who watched my back despite me running off during incidents. Thank you for your knowledge and guidance.

Honestly, I miss station life so much. Just hearing the siren on the road or in the house brings back so many good memories. Sigh.

Tutorial Homework and Me

Uni has begun once again. But hey, I’m honestly loving going back to study. It’s like life has some structure again. Anyway, despite this being the most prepared I’ve been, I still manage to forget to bring my tutorial homework to class.

Now if this was secondary school, it’ll sound like an age old excuse, but this time it’s the truth! In tutorials, I perpetually look like the lazy dude who’s trying to rush out another set of practice questions before the tutor gets there.

So, who took my gingko nuts?
